Q Case Study: Mrs. R is a 73-year-old Caucasian female who presents to your office to assist with mild depression. In her initial sessions she indicates that her husband of 50 years regularly physically and verbally abuses her, and has done so since the onset of their marriage. Mrs. R indicates that she has never thought of leaving the marriage and certainly will not do so now. Presuming additional facts of this case, apply one of the theoretical contexts outlined by Fair and Ochberg (Trauma Counseling Theories and Interventions) for understanding IPV. What are the strengths and limitations of the model you chose? The attachment model is what I would apply for resolving this case of treating the 73-year-old female. The major issue of this case is that the woman had been tolerating and not complaining or protesting against continuous/consistent levels of being abused in different ways. Therefore, she had perhaps got used to being abused from the time she had got married. Therefore, the level of attachment of this woman can be fathomed by the resilience of her mind and body. There could have also been situations when this woman might have been abused in the past by her friends/relatives/family members.
